Hi.

I have a problem with my website – Some download managers rename the extension file of my .msi installer to an .exe, making the installation unusable.

So, I got a suggestion that I should change the “content-type parameter” of my file to “application/octet-stream” or “application/x-msi”.

Does anyone know how to do this and where?

Well, if its a windows web server, then that option is in the IIS manager, so you’d have to send an email to support. Not sure how that works on Linux boxes. Why not just zip it up and have them download a .zip file and once its unzipped then your .msi file will be there and no possibility of things getting screwed up. Thats pretty dumb though, that a dl manager would rename it to exe and not back to msi when its done. Most people dont use download managers anymore, so I wouldn’t really worry about that anyways. Everyone has broadband nowadays. The dl managers were more geared towards the dialup users. The only practicallity of it with broadband is if your file is uber huge.
