I was having trouble on my XPS laptop (vista) because of a currupt .net file and so I decided to uninstall/reinstall it. I went on the control panel to programs and then to programs and features. There I selected Microsoft .NET and uninstalled it. I then ran Windows Update and it downloaded “Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 service pack 1 and Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 Family Update…” but failed to install giving the general error code 0×643.
I have since tried to install many different .NET frameworks none of which stop the errors or install properly. Version 1.1 (SDK) installs but does not help, 2.0 won’t install because it is apparently part of the operating system and 3.0 won’t either because there is a earlier version. 3.5 does not install and leaves the following error:
Setup Error
An error occurred during setup. Installed files have been removed from your computer. For known issues and troubleshooting information see the online Readme. For error information, see Error Log.
The error log is as fallows:

Somehow I need to install the appropriate version of Microsoft .NET framework on my computer but I’m damned if I know how. I’m guessing that somehow I did not uninstall properly and am hoping that usful information is sent my way, not just links so that I can install
. Thanks!

First, uninstall all related .NET framework installations.
And you know, Vista itself comes with .NET 3.0 framework.
I’d suggest installing the latest MSI…
And then install .NET 2.0.
This might also help…
