Network Interface Drivers problem with new windows XP install.?

05 May

My old hard drive made clicking noises so I put in a new hard drive, installed XP professional but now I can’t go on the internet. I put in my Verizon DSL install disc and it said “can not detected Network Interface Card (NIC)”.

This is a brought machine, no setup disc with motherboard drivers or anything. My motherboard is MSI MS-7207G 100 which is Microstar K8NGM2 (upon searching through search engines). I downloaded the drivers and installed it on my new hard drive but some error pops up like “can’t find nVidia driver, failed to install” something like that.

So my question right now if there is no easy solution is: Since my old hard drive connected to the internet and can still boot up most of the times and I can put it as a slave for now. Can I take out the drivers in some way from my old hard drive and put it into my new one. I can’t copy all the old hard drive into my new one since new one is smaller size.

Thank you.

Well Nvidia is your video card, not the NIC. You will need to find out what NIC you have and get the driver from the manufacturer’s site.

put the 2nd drive in your system as a slave and pull the drivers over . not rocket science / or download belarc to a disk do a system scan and down load the correct drivers

You can create image of your old hard drive by using Norton Ghost then run it on you new hard drive, this way you got all the system drivers and necessary settings related to your demands

If the old drive is still bootable, make it the boot drive and boot to it. Go into Device Manager and make a note of all of the hardware installed on it. You should be able to use that information to download the proper drivers for your NIC and video card. Download the drivers and store them in separate folders so that you can install them once you boot back to the new drive.
