Which laptop should i choose from these two models?

21 May

Choosing the right laptop:
the left is the asus model, while the right side is the msi model

asus a8fm–msi s420
(similarities)
1gb ram–1gb ram

(obvious difference)
core 2 duo 1.66ghz—core 2 duo 1.83ghz
80gb sata–160gb sata
with embedded webcam—no webcam (hwaaa…but there’s a free webcam clip)

(their difference….something unknown to me…which makes me dont know which to choose from)
intel gma 950 shared up to 224mb–ati radeon x200 128mb shared
intel 945gm express chipset–ati RC410ME chipset

OS to be removed for asus and msi

Price:
54,000 pesos currency–60,000 pesos for msi

so a 6,000 difference is quite a big amount…Philippine Pesos….
will msi laptops worth buying, will spending the 6,000 be justifiable…
please help me in deciding…(ignoring my purpose of buying the laptop)…upgrades can also be recommended to me…thanks..please state your reasons too…

Which laptop should i buy? HP DV9548 or MSI MS-1719?

20 May

My laptop just died and still can’t make up my mind. Both are 17”, weigh about the same and seem to have the same battery life, 2gb of RAM, vista premium.

HP DV9548 ~$1400~ (after tax or shipping est.)
-Pent. Duo Core 2: 1.6ghz (maybe 2 on ebay)
-Brightview HP WSXGA+ screen with better color but only 1440 x 900 res
-Nvidia 8600 *GS* video 256mb
-TV Tuner w/ remote
-Seems better built, very pretty case
-HP means easyer to find parts for and service
-200gb HD at 5400rpm, support for dual HDs
-Not sure about the sound

Cyberpower.com X7-7700 (ms-1719)
~$1590~ (After shipping and rush build)
-Pent Duo Core 2: 2.0 ghz
-Average screen WSXGA+ 1680×1050
-Nvidia 8600 *GT* 256mb
-80gb HD 7200rpm
-BUILT-IN AC 97 SOUND stereo speaker system
-Not sure about the build quality, but its super shiny black

I am a photographer using CS3 & LR ALOT, and about as advance gamming i get is Oblivion with add-ons. So good color (the HP) and good graphics&speed (the 1719) are important.
Opps! The MS-1719 has a 8600GT w/ 512mb not 256… add that to the list.

What power supply should i buy?

20 May

I am about to order a custom-built pc but got stuck when i realised i have no idea how much power i need, so i hope someone else does. Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel core 2 duo quad 9450 2.66 ghz
MOBO: ASUS P5N-D 750i sli 2xPCIex 4xsata2
MEMORY: 4gb (2gbx2) ram
HDD: 7200rpm 750GB 16mb cache (will get another soon!!!!) account for 2 hard drives of this type!!!
OPTICAL: 2 – 20x dual layer cd/dvd/r/rw
VIDEO: Nvidia 9800gtx 512mb
OTHER: MSI TV @nywhere plus tv tuner card with remote

i will only have one hdd and one dvd/rw when i order the pc, but will add 1 of each later, will this increase in power needs be ok? is it ok to run much less power than the power supply creates? even partial help on this would be great.

Should I get a wireless card or a wireless usb adapter for my PC?

14 May

I just built a new computer with an Intel Core 2 quad, a DFI Blood-Iron motherboard, and a MSI 8800 video card. I need to get a wireless adapter to pick up wireless N signal. I’m trying to decide whether I should buy a wireless card to install in my desktop or just get a wireless usb adapter. What is the difference, if any, and what are the pros and cons of each?

How much should I sell this computer for?

13 May

CPU: Intel Pentium III @ 500 mhz (socket 1)
Mobo: Napoli-2 (onboard sound and USB)
RAM: 256 MB (PC-100)
Video: MSI NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX4000-T64 64MB DDR SDRAM (32-bit) <—— NEW
Hard Disk: 20 GB (I might replace it with a 30 GB one)
Case: an old case from an old eMachine
OS: I can install Win 2000 on it, but the COA on the case is for Win 98.
OTHER: monitor, keyboard, mouse included

I known that this computer is crap, which is why I will title it “The Mediocore Computer” and my slogan will be, “…Because you can’t afford anything better!” but how much should I charge for this? What would be a fair price and what would be the most that I can get away with, without worrying about getting my car trashed?
$25?!

The graphic card is new and that alone cost me $30!

What power supply supply should I get for my first custom pc?

08 May

what kind of power supply and video card should i get? Building my first custom pc, here’s all the parts that i’ve researched on.

I’m about 200 over my ideal limit and budget. But I do want that MOBO and CPU. When would the best time to buy that CPU? I want to chop 200 off and I still need a video card and psu. I’ll buy the optical drive outside the budget.

But I dunno how to actually assemble everything. I have a decent idea but the types of cables confuses me. Anyone willing to walk me through?

Thanks!

Should I buy a computer from Best Buy or have a local store build one for me?

27 Apr

I am thinking of buying a new computer. I plan just to use it for Internet use, and some light gaming.

I have around best buy and looked at some at a local shop here in town.
The computer tech at the local shop says that I am getting a better computer then I would get at best buy for 800 US.

This is their setup list:
AMD Athlon64 3500+ 64 S940 AM2 CPU

MSI K9NNEOF nFORCE550 AM2 Main Board

IGB 2X512MB Deal Channel DDR2 RAM

MSI GeForce6200 PCI Express Video w/
256MB TC

WD250GB SATA 8 MB 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE

16x DVD +/- RW DUAL LAYER BURNER

10/100/1000 GIGABYTE LAN

56K FAX/MODEM W/VOICE

8 CHNNEL AUDIO & LABTEC SUBWOOFER SPKRS

WIN XP HOME

Also comes with a 5 year warrenty, 1 year total warrnty, and 3 year trade in (whatever that means) plan and a custom case.

In plain, non-techial English, what does each part do? What kind of quality (and value) am I getting compared to best buy?
