I would like to build a new computer from scratch. I haven’t done this before but I do know a bit about computers and have replaced/added cards, drives, RAM in the past. If there is something wrong or missing with the setup below please let me know. This is a list I have created of EVERYTHING that I need.
I plan on using Windows Vista/7 64bit Ultimate for this computer. I have already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers. I am going to place this in one big order that should be ready to assemble without any other trips to the store. What’s missing?

Update: Getting GREAT answers here. I don’t want to mess with over-clocking at this point. Once the CPU and board are a few years old then I’ll start with that to save some dollars then.
Advice taken: more/better fans and larger power supply.

i have a amd sempron 3400+ processor 1.5 gigs of ram, 550 watt power supply and windows xp…my computers pretty fast for having a sempron processor…i pulled it out of a compaq lol and the onboard graphics are ok for a 45 dollar motherboard it
plays hitman on high everything and marc eckos getting up on high everything…even tho those are demanding games but idc better than that compaq…it blew up playing getting up…the power supply started on fire somehow lol so i just built a new computer…bought a new case and everything
but i want more to play more games and play movies better, the quality is ok but not the best and as i want to get a 21 inch screen monitor sometime in the future
any ideas?
oh yeah ive had it since february…just i now got a job (im 16) so i can afford it and my power supply and case is from ultra

i tried downloading an update for installshield and it still does it. any one know what’s going on?
What’s the point of big, bloated installers such as .msi and InstallShield?

I dont see why even a large program needs an installer that takes 30 minutes to install the whole thing. Why does it take so long and why is it so bloated/complex?
I downloaded the Installshield trial and it’s very complicated, with its guids for every file and such… again, what’s the point?
Inno works just fine for my purposes, why can’t something simple like that also work for bigger stuff like MS Office?

IM on the market for a new notebook. As of now, i have a samsung nc-10 but the screen is just getting to me. So i’ve been doing some research to see what suits me best. I would be using this mainly for school, with homework research, notes, ect. I have a few in mind. the MSI X320, X340, Acer timeline, and the Samsung NC20. What do you think i Should get? My main priority is portability and weight. And since they’re all around the same price, minus the X340, i want to get the most out of what im paying for.
Or if you have any other notebooks you would recommend let me hear them. I dont wanna go any bigger then 13, so 12-13 is right where i wanna be.

Hello,
I just bought a new MSI motherboard and I can’t install windows xp on it. I formatted my 20gb harddrive and for some reason it doesn’t read my dual layer dvd drive, but when I put in my 40gb harddrive it reads the Dual Layer dvd drive and when I try to re-install windows it freezes..PLEASE HELPPPPP!!!!

What’s the difference between these 2 versions of a software installer? “Install application” aka the “setup.exe” and another one called “windows installer package (.msi file)? A coder working on an app sent us both types. They both seem to look the same when I run them. Thanking you.

I’m going to buy one of these things, mostly to take notes in class, but also to do light internet searching. I’ve only looked at the Acer and HP, and they seem about the same (though HP’s keyboard seems a tiny bit nicer). Anyone have any opinions on this matter? Thanks.

Im upgrading my netbook to a notebook. The screen is just to hard on my eyes when it comes to doing papers and stuff for college. Ive got it down to either the new acer timeline 13 inch, or the MSi x320-40. Whats hard is, they both have things about them that make me not want them, at least not right now. I need to know if i should get one of the models, and if so which is best for me? Also if it is better for me to wait for second generation models to come out for both and decide then?
I have a powerful desktop at home, so this computer would be used strictly for school. So doing papers, lecture notes, homework, and research. So the main aspects i need are battery life,portability( weight), and hardrive. Ram and processor arent as much but still somewhat important.

Im a college student and dont do any gaming, but would still like a decent video card. i dont need a whole lot of hard drive space either, I can get an external HD.
I was thinking about the acer aspire One (the 16gb one) or MSI wind. i would like something with over 1GB or RAM though. NO VISTA jeez =)
Any one have any suggestions? or heard anything about those 2?? Thanks
